The project, which would riced from a Metro-owned property at Soto Station, calls for the construction of a five-story building featuring one manager's apartment and 63 affordable units with 4,265 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. According to Metro's joint development page, 43 of the apartments will be made available to households earning at or below 30 to 50 percent of the area median income and 20 units will serve as permanent supportive housing.
Pasadena-based Gonzalez Goodale has previously been attached as the project's architect.
The proposed development, called the Los Lirios Apartments, has gone through design changes since the proposal first emerged in 2014. At that point in time, it was considered part of a two-building project which would have also incorporated a second Metro-owned property across Soto Street.
After plans for a second building fell through, Metro and ELACC have instead used the extra space to store the Blue House - also known as the Peabody Warden House - a 19th century Victorian home which was displaced by ELACC's Cielito Lindo Apartments, which opened last year. The Boyle Heights Beat reported last year that ELACC intends to reuse the 124-year-old house as a community center with surrounding open space.
Besides the Cielito Lindo development - the second phase of which is now under construction - ELACC is attached to several other projects near Gold Line stops in Boyle Heights, including a proposed 60-unit affordable housing complex adjacent to Mariachi Plaza.
